But if they are what they are not to bad... it is my b-day, but I am not up for the drive......

That's what the ad says. However, I don't think that's a 416-8C, at least not if you believe this....

I could be wrong. Altec did some funny stuff with their gear as we well know....$500 isn't a bad price if all the rest is accurate.. Caveat Emptor.

The 416 absolutely positively NEVER had a shiny cap. Unless reconed with 418 kits

Most likely 418's and he misread, or 421 and he never looked at all just read specs online somewhere.

My guess? A set somebody slapped together.

The MI speakers were not used with that crossover. This assumes he even HAS that crossover, again he may have just read specs somewhere, VOTT's are all the same aren't they?:lol:

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. In this case the seller seems to know how to read. he should be on eBay.

Don't recall paying much attention to the 418 series, but if it's 416 based, how did it vent the VC? Or was the lack of one the primary source of its 'tone'?

No, metal DC implies a MI driver, so either the DCs were replaced or they were re-coned with MI kits. If they are 416s, then in either case there's no VC cooling vent with the potential attendant distortion and overheating issues. Regardless, if you want a pair of A7 cabs 'on the cheap' this is a good deal even if the drivers do need re-coning/whatever.

Sure is tempting, I've got a buddy with a pick-up close enough to get them for me, though not close enough to cut into his golfing time to just scope them out.
